ㅅ 불규칙 (Bất quy tắc ㅅ)siot bulgyuchik

ㅅ Irregular Conjugation (ㅅ 불규칙)

Meaning: Final consonant ㅅ drops before vowel endings WITHOUT vowel contraction

Conjugation & Pattern

  • 1) Irregular ㅅ stems + vowel ending -> Drop ㅅ without contracting vowels: 짓다 (build/cook) -> 지어요, 낫다 (recover/be better) -> 나아요, 붓다 (swell/pour) -> 부어요, 잇다 (connect) -> 이어요.
  • 2) Regular ㅅ stems (do NOT drop ㅅ): 웃다 (laugh -> 웃어요), 씻다 (wash -> 씻어요), 벗다 (take off -> 벗어요), 빗다 (comb -> 빗어요).

Detailed Usage

Applies to specific verbs and adjectives ending in ㅅ when followed by vowel-initial endings.
