V/A + -되 (Although / while admitting ..., on the condition that)

Meaning: Even though / while..., provided that (concedes the first clause while adding a contrast or condition in the second).

Conjugation & Pattern

  • Present: V/A + -되 | Noun (N) + -(이)되
  • Past: V/A + -았/었으되

Detailed Usage

Used in formal writing, maxims, or rules: 1) Connects contrasting clauses ('although'); 2) Grants permission in the first clause while stipulating a necessary condition in the second.
