Conjugation & Pattern

• With Verb (Periphrastic Passive): V + -아/어지다 (만들다 -> 만들어지다, 켜다 -> 켜지다, 꺼지다, 쏟아지다, 지워지다)
• With Adjective (Change of State): A + -아/어지다 (예쁘다 -> 예뻐지다, 깨끗하다 -> 깨끗해지다, 추워지다)

Detailed Usage

(1) Attached to transitive verbs that lack a lexical '-이/히/리/기-' passive, '-아/어지다' forms the passive voice ('be made, be spilled, be erased, be turned off'). (2) Attached to adjectives, it expresses a gradual change of state ('become...').
