Meaning: By means of / with / in (transport, tool, material, language)

Conjugation & Pattern

  • Noun without patchim OR ending in ㄹ + 로 (버스로, 지하철로, 비행기로, 한국어로)
  • Noun with patchim (except ㄹ) + 으로 (볼펜으로, 젓가락으로)

Attached to a noun to express means of transportation (by bus/subway), tools/instruments (with chopsticks/pen), language used (in Korean), or raw materials.

Important Notes

Note: 'On foot' is expressed as '걸어서 가다' (not 발로 가다). Nouns ending in ㄹ (지하철, 연필) take '로' directly (지하철로, 연필로).
