Conjugation & Pattern

• When a stem ending in '르' meets '-아/어': drop 'ㅡ', add final consonant 'ㄹ' to the preceding syllable, and change র+아/어 to 라 or 러:
• 1) Preceding vowel is ㅏ or ㅗ -> + ㄹ라요: 모르다 (not know) -> 몰라요, 빠르다 (fast) -> 빨라요, 다르다 (different) -> 달라요, 고르다 (choose) -> 골라요.
• 2) Preceding vowel is anything else -> + ㄹ러요: 부르다 (sing/call/full) -> 불러요, 기르다 (raise) -> 길러요, 누르다 (press) -> 눌러요, 서두르다 (hurry) -> 서둘러요.

Applies to nearly all verbs and adjectives ending in '르' when conjugated with endings starting with '-아/어'.

   그 사람의 전화번호를 몰라요.

   Geu saramui jeonhwabeonhoreul mollayo.

   I do not know that person's phone number.

   비행기가 기차보다 훨씬 빨라요.

   An airplane is much faster than a train.
